Riga's AI Meetup Scene Has Quietly Become the Baltics' Best
Monthly meetups now draw 150+ attendees. What is driving this community growth?
Two years ago, AI meetups in Riga were sparse — a handful of academics in a university seminar room. Today, the monthly "Riga AI Nights" event regularly draws 150 to 200 attendees to TechHub Riga, and spin-off groups focused on NLP, computer vision, and AI ethics have sprouted up alongside it.
Organisers credit several factors: the arrival of international accelerator programmes, increased government funding for tech events, and a genuine shift in the local developer community toward AI tooling.
"People come because the talks are practical," said organiser Kārlis Dambis. "Last month we had a Riga startup demo live fine-tuning of an open-source model on Latvian legal documents. That's not a slide deck — it's a working terminal."
The meetup has also become an informal recruiting ground, with several attendees reporting that they found their current jobs through connections made at the events.
